'American Gods' Film

EXCITED!

Neil Gaiman has confirmed that his best-seller, "American Gods", will be made into a movie. I am very excited. I am not a huge reader of fiction novels. In fact, including American Gods, the only other fiction books I have read that were not academic assignments were the Harry Potter series and "Queen of the Damned" (well, halfway).

For those of you who have not read it, I really suggest you do. Gaiman's premise revolves around the concept of what has come to be termed 'soft-polytheism' in the Pagan communities. "American Gods" is hinged upon the idea that any God to whom humanity has ever prayed is real and while they have an existence and power dependent on the number of believers they currently have, they also have motivations and individualities of their own.

I do not want to give too much away of the book but the book, for me, vividly brought to life every theological question I had about gods, the gods vis-a-vis God (that is, the concept of an Absolute Godhead, from which the other gods emanate), and relationship between humanity and the divine (e.g., are the gods personal beings or are they impersonal archetypes).

  1. This is GREAT news! I love "American Gods". I also enjoyed "The Graveyard Boy" and I'm currently re-reading "Good Omens", written by Gaiman and my old time favorite Terry Pratchett.

Oh yeah! This is a most see ;-D
